My muse is lovely; my senses he delights.

My muse is flirty; my passion he incites.

My muse inspires my odes and rhymes,

ballads and sonnets,

even limericks, at times.

My muse is lonely; he evokes my pity.

My muse is elusive;

I must chase him through the city.

My muse disappoints me;

I turn heartbreak into verses.

My heartbreak turns to anger;

I subject my muse to curses.

Someday I’ll tell my muse

of all the poems he’s inspired,

and when inspiration fails me,

my muse, well, he’ll be fired.
